George Brown College growing the grassroots

The George Brown Huskies celebrated volleyball month this year by visiting Upper Canada College in Toronto to work with their 14U and 12U teams. On Wednesday September 25th the Huskies joined the UCC Blues 14U team to help them prepare for their A-Day Game on September 28th.

"It's good to be a part of an active role in raising the popularity of volleyball in Canada. A great place to start is with kids. Showing them how much fun the sport of volleyball can be by simply being ourselves is the best and easiest way of doing so." said Richard Serote, 2012/13 OCAA 1st Team All StarThe Huskies followed up that practice by joining the 12U Team on Monday September 30th to help them with their final push of the season. "I think our guys get a lot out of programs like this". said Head Coach Josh Nichol. "They were great with the kids not only coaching, but jumping into a few drills and working directly with the athletes"

"It was a refreshing experience to coach, or in some moments supervise, the future athletes. While watching the energetic kids, I found myself being reminded of why I love playing the sport! The instant camaraderie, the technical effort and of course fun! Would definitely help out again to watch them constantly improve." Edwin Sheon 2012/13 OCAA 1st Team All Star and OCAA All-Academic.

"Volleyball Month is a great program to get our guys involved in the volleyball community. We plan on following up with UCC later in their season. Members from our team will also be working with Leaside Volleyball Club, Phoenix Volleyball, Toronto West Volleyball Club, Region 5 and Durham Attack."  - Josh Nichol
