National Volleyball Month - Huskies
Oct 23, 2012
On September 26th the Men’s Varsity Volleyball Team hosted athletes from Bloor Collegiate Institute as a part of National Volleyball Month. The athletes from Bloor joined the Huskies in their Wednesday night practice and participated in drills along side the Huskie players.
Volleyball Canada created National Volleyball Month to raise awareness for the sport of Volleyball in Canada, attempting to get more people involved with the sport.
The George Brown Huskies currently have two Bloor CI alumni on their roster, Richard Serote and Winson Lee. “I liked helping out the kids that came out last night.” Says Serote, a second-year player. “I felt like they left better players than they were before they came in. If we can continue doing what we did, we can raise the overall level of volleyball in Toronto, and eventually Canada. It’s important to build strong foundations, make younger kids realize that hard work pays off, not only in Volleyball but life itself.”
“It’s a great idea that allows our players to get involved in the community and give back.” Says Josh Nichol, head coach of the Huskies. “We look forward to doing more events like this in the future with school and club teams.”
Last season the Men’s Team helped out with programs with Big Brothers and Sisters of Toronto, Upper Canada College, The York School, Leaside Volleyball Club, Interclub, East York Collegiate and hosted a co-ed tournament with high school teams from the Toronto area.
