Atomic 2
The 11-12 age is within the critical window for developing volleyball skills. Atomic - Stage 2, is an excellent progression from the previous Stage, as kids should now be much more comfortable with the skills and able to generate many more rallies. Playing 4 on 4 and applying Triple Ball rules for competition whenever possible is the best way to ensure the most rallies and the most fun!
ADAPTING TO A VARIETY OF LEVELS
Circulation Volleyball and Atomic Stage 1 are perfect build up games leading to Atomic - Stage 2, because it focuses on developing the underhand serve and the forearm pass. Without some control over these skills, the game quickly breaks down and the fun is lost. If a school group has experienced Circulation Volleyball, and Atomic Stage 1, then the transition to Atomic - Stage 2 will be very easy. However, without this background experience there are a few modifications teachers can use to keep the fun going:
- 1. Catch and throw the first contact
- 2. Catch and throw the first two contacts
- 3. Allow the serve to be a toss
